Inland aquaculture farmers talk about the challenges and failures of land-based seawater aquaculture

Abstract of the lecture
He will talk about “the present and future of land-based aquaculture” from the perspective of a producer, touching on the five years in which an inland rainbow trout farmer in Shizuoka tried to produce saltwater-farmed salmon, but faced repeated failures along the way. He will also touch on the current state of land-based aquaculture, its future direction, and ways in which companies can collaborate.

On April 1, 2023, land-based aquaculture was designated as a notified aquaculture business under the Law Concerning the Promotion of Inland Water Fisheries (Law No. 103 of 2014, hereinafter referred to as the “Law”). In this lecture, we will explain the outline of the system and introduce the subsidy programs that can be used for land-based aquaculture.

The latest advanced examples of land-based cultivation of vannamei in Thailand and Germany

Abstract of the lecture
In recent years, the shrimp farming industry has undergone major changes. In the case of shrimp farming in ponds, the rising cost of feed and electricity has led to rising production costs, while the increase in global production has led to falling sales prices. We believe that further advances in land-based farming technology will enable domestic shrimp to be competitive with imported shrimp. We would like to introduce this new technology.
